PORTFOLIO

You’ll find examples spanning website copywriting, SEO blog content, personal essays, reported essays/articles, and more.

THE GUARDIAN: Personal essay

I wrote a personal essay for The Guardian UK’s ongoing series, “Why I Quit.” My piece focused on the overwhelming amount of background noise I’d allowed into my day-to-day life, and how I went about finding peace and more space for my own thoughts.

THE NEW YORK TIMES: Reported essay

I cold-pitched an editor of The New York Times an idea for a reported story about groups of friends in South Korea who pool their money and create “savings groups” for outings and trips. I interviewed sources and wrote a 1,700-word story. The article ran on the front page of both the national and international print versions on June 19/20, 2024.

FAST COMPANY: Work-life essay

I wrote an “on-spec,” fully completed draft and submitted it to Fast Company’s online editorial team. After some minor tweaks from the editors, it was published on the website in the “Work Life” section.

BUSINESS INSIDER: Personal essays

I cold-pitched my first personal essay to an editor at Business Insider in 2022. Over time, I’ve built relationships with a few editors and written on several subjects, including student loans, freelance writing, personal finance, and living abroad.

BOUNDLESS HQ: SEO glossary

I worked with Boundless HQ, a European employer of record company, to create a glossary defining commonly searched terms for their website that would help them compete in SEO results. The client provided the keywords, and I wrote copy based on existing published information from their website, notes from the content lead, and personal research.

VARIOUS CLIENTS: SEO blog content

I began writing SEO-centered blog content for clients in 2017. All my clients have come from wildly different niches, and I love learning how each of them operates in their individual industries. I also wrote email newsletters, social media captions, and other various types of copy when needed.

TRIALFACTS: Case studies

To write these case studies, I used interviews with Trialfacts medical researcher clients conducted by the CEO. Each case study included direct quotes from the researchers themselves and followed the “hero’s journey” story arc, detailing how they overcame the difficulties surrounding recruiting participants for their clinical research trials.

I collaborated with this client to develop a unique tone and voice for her newly launched business. In addition to writing copy for her new website, I designed the Squarespace site, set up a custom domain email account through Google Workspace, and designed a trifold brochure and business card.

TEN ACCOUNTING: Website copy

I used a combination of a website “wireframe” (a visual plan created by a website developer), along with notes provided by the client, to write the website copy for Ten Accounting.

The client didn’t have many examples of how the copy should sound, but his notes helped describle how he and his team wanted the words to feel and what message they wanted to convey.

ACTIVE AGING CO: Squarespace website design, website copy, and marketing materials design & copy

TRIALFACTS: Website copy

I used a combination of a website “wireframe” (a visual plan created by a website developer) and an outline provided by the client to write the website copy for Trialfacts.
